Update on St Albans neighbourhood priorities

Neighbourhood priorities have now been set for the next four months. These issues will be given extra attention by your local Neighbourhood Policing Teams, working alongside district partners to focus on solving long and short-term neighbourhood issues, such as anti-social behaviour, theft, speeding and drug-related crime.

Alongside the NPT, St Albans is also policed by officers who respond to emergency calls, a team of detectives who investigate crimes such as burglary, robbery and assault, and specialist units who work to tackle issues such as acquisitive crime and domestic abuse. In addition, we can call on colleagues from central teams which work countywide.

You said: Tackle drug-related crime and ASB in St Peters ward (city centre).

We are doing:

High visibility and covert patrols to develop intelligence.

A drugs warrant has already been done in Lower Dagnell Street (14 Sept).

We will work with drug and homeless charities and St Albans City and District Council.

We will look at CPW, CPNs and CBOs.

You said: Tackle nuisance and anti-social vehicle use including e-scooters and e-bikes, including on the Alban Way.

This is a variation to the previous neighbourhood priority of tackling e-scooter and e-bikes to capture all vehicles driving or riding anti-socially or illegally because this is causing the most concern in the area.

We are doing:

We will continue to seize a number of e-bikes and e-scooters for traffic offences and riding anti-socially.

Officers have received specialist training.

You will continue to see dedicated operations checking the legality of e-scooters and food delivery bikes.

You previously said: Crime and anti-social behaviour in the Sopwell Ward (primarily Cottonmill and St Albans Retail Park)

We did:

Supported St Albans City and District Council in obtaining closure orders in Cottonmill Lane, Abbotts Avenue West and Cyrils Way.

Worked with McDonalds, who now have a Shopsafe radio and alert app with support from St Albans BID (Business Improvement District).

Partnership working with Everyone Active management at Cottonmill

Community and Cycle Centre.

As a result of this partnership action, we have seen a reduction in reports of ASB in the area, so this is no longer a neighbourhood priority.

Whilst there will be a focus on the local priorities, we will continue to respond to daily business as usual, as well as force wide priorities and any emerging issues which require more immediate action.
